Re: I thought DHA is what caused the size of the human brain to grow? If not DHA, what did?

Simplistically, two things grew the brain.

By far, glucose was Number 1. Creatine was Number 2.

Without many backup players (proteins called glucose transporters, etc.), these two superstars never would have reached beyond the blueprint stage.

By contrast, DHA swells the brain by inflammation — dehydrating brain cells by hydrating the extracellular fluid (edema).

Re: I think there are more pathways than we currently know about for our cells to keep us going. Some alcoholics and drug addicts seem to last for a long time. Yes, they ultimately fail but some seem to last many years.

People in 2118 will laugh at today's understanding of chemistry and neurology.

Age spots actually contain anti-cancer chemicals.

But better immune responses need recruitment if humankind expects to exceed the 120-year-old longevity escape velocity.

It's easy to forget that every Yang causes a Yin, and vice versa.

No color exists without its complementary color, as Goethe discovered by looking through the prism instead of at it like Newton.

<>

Dick Van Dyke had an "extended bout with alcoholism," and he still looks fit for 92 revolutions around the Sun.

He's one of the folks Longevity scientists might consider studying, not so much yeast, mice, DNA, and RNA.

Even someone in the anti-Kruse "Peat Tribe" (narous, 2012) acknowledged Dr. Kruse's impeccable credentials ...

"But I was surprised to hear Kruse introduced [on NPR] as being highly educated and esteemed within the field, and as working at UC-Berkeley, a serious, prestigious school.

"So I was surprised to hear he had credentials and held a high post. Because I had previously had it in my head that he was just some guy who wrote sensational, science-free books about Evil Sugar.

"And I was also surprised by his passion and crusading attitude. He is, I do think, pushing snake oil, but my take on him is that he really believes in his snake oil. Highly educated guy, high achieving, well-spoken, comes across as passionately concerned for the health of people, on a crusade he really believes him, able to spout studies left and right — articulate.

"None of this is to argue at all that the substance of what he believes has any merit. Just to say that I was surprised to find him to be such a formidable, convincing presence."

When I say Jack Kruse and I disagree, let's not think he knows who I am or what I stand for.

March 15, 2008, was the first day he acknowledged my "mediocrity" and "substandard thinking."

Guilty as charged. I'm about as mediocre as it gets, and my substandard thinking is mostly a result of compulsory schooling.

But, when it comes to DHA, I seen to have more Common Sense than Dr. Kruse.

How did he miss that it gives every mammal of Earth (including human beings) Yellow Fat Disease?

DHA even gives fish Yellow Fat Disease. It's the reason fish farmers have to use Monsanto's ethoxyquin.

How did a neurosurgeon miss that DHA shrinks the brain?

Can someone in his "tribe" ask him if the plaques follow the tangles or do the tangles follow the plaques?

Jack Kruse calls DHA the "critical component of the mammalian battery."

I say DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) is a major cause of Waxy Yellow Fat Disease, along with EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) and ALA (alpha-linolenic acid).
