I learned to "de-gas" edema in the 1970s in Houston, Texas.

The Leather Tiger, ex-Marine George Wellington Adams, came to see Adano Ley at his Richmond Avenue clinic and home.

George's legs were swollen with edema.

Adano did some preliminary work on him while George was leaning back in a recliner chair.

Then he instructed me to hold George's feet.

He told me to push George's toes in the direction of his head — foot dorsiflexion, like taking your foot off a gas pedal.

He told me to gently push his toes together — foot inversion, the opposite of Charlie Chaplin toes-out foot eversion.

He told George to yawn and stretch.

His legs deflated down to normal in just a few minutes.
