"That's why Jesus turned the other cheek. It was a martial arts technique. The first slap is positive, the second slap is negative, and the third is neutral. It cannot be delivered if the intended victim has turned his cheek for the third time. The neutral state is a built-in safety valve."

Study a higher form of self-love — self-work. The highest choice for most people is to find out why they're running around with a bullseye on their back.

Adano Ley told me I was Johannes Gutenberg's assistant in a past life.

I never tried to validate it, thinking who would bother to record historical data on a menial assistant?

I quit working for Gutenberg following a disagreement, according to Adano.

He told me, "When I first met you and saw your printing, I told Margaret, 'Ah! Gutenberg’s assistant has returned!'"

<>

It seems that Gutenberg's business partner was actually his "most trusted assistant."

I chanced upon this info in a small-town college library 19 years after Adano's remarks.

The "most trusted assistant" was Peter Schoffer, a calligrapher, engraver, and designer, who callously and opportunistically took over Gutenberg's printing business, going on to become the world's first international printer and bookseller.

Schoffer credited his adopted father with the invention of the printing press after his father foreclosed on Gutenberg and turned the enterprise over to Schoffer.

<>

John Man (Gutenberg: How One Man Remade the World with Words, 2002) wrote ...

"People coming across Schoffer in the mid-1450s would have been well advised to admire his talent and watch their backs."
